For Flickr’s sake

International visitors may wonder why the Dubai metroblog doesn’t have Flickr.com photos like the other cities.

Well, that’s because Flickr has been blocked by the UAE government censors for the second time. Blame it on Etisalat (state monopoly teloc), blame it on the TRA (UAE Telecoms Regulatory Authority) the result is the same: no more Flickr for Dubaians.

    It is interesting to note that, according to some of those on Flickr, the majority of people in the UAE welcome censorship of the internet as a “good thing”. Apparently this came from a survey made by ETISALAT some 4 yrs ago.However, we do not know what questions were asked or to whom. I have never met anyone who was asked to participate..del
