Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim and Brig. Al Mazeina address the media to announce the arrest of three suspects behind the Wafi City mall jewellery theft that shocked the nation. The jewellery has also been recovered, and is shown in the photograph on the tray in front of the officers.

Two weeks ago, as I reported at the time, we had our first-ever ram-raid when a prestigious jewellery store in a major shopping mall was robbed. Within days Dubai police indicated that they knew the identity of the gang and expressed confidence that they would soon be arrested.

Now they have announced three arrests, two in the UAE and one in Eastern Europe – so obviously they have been working closely with Interpol and perhaps other police forces in Europe.

Police, who say they are still hunting other suspects, have released photographs of the three arrested men. These are the photographs of the two picked up in the UAE:

Police have said that this is a highly organised and successful gang who have carried out over 100 operations in Europe. It’s obviously congratulations all round to the police here for some excellent work.
