EID AL-FITR Shawal 01 1431 (Sept. 10 2010)

Justice Minister Dr Hadef Jouan Al Dhahiri announced Wednesday evening that Thursday will be the 30th day of the Holy month of Ramadan and the Eid Al Fitr will be observed on Friday, September 10.

Addressing a press conference at the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi, the minister said that the observation of the evening sky did not establish the sighting the crescent moon marking the beginning of Shawwal. Necessary investigations and communication with the neighboring countries were made to determine the beginning of Shawal, he added.

Beginning of Ramadan as well as Shawal months should be established by actual sighting of the crescent moon according to the Islamic tradition

The minister wished the rulers and people of UAE prosperous Eid and prayed to God for peace and prosperity in every part of the world.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar will also celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Friday.

The Eid prayer timings for the various emirates are: Abu Dhabi – 6.21am, Dubai – 6.30am and Sharjah – 6.25am.

The General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments has concluded preparations for Eid Al Fitr prayers. The Executive Director of Islamic Affairs, Mohammed Obeid Al Mazroui, said the authority had allocated 696 musallas and mosques all over the UAE for the prayers.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will offer Eid prayer on Friday at the Grand Eid Mussala in Dubai.

In Sharjah, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, will perform the prayer at Al Badee Mussala. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sharjah Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler, sheikhs and senior officials will perform the prayer along with Sheikh Sultan. Sharjah Ruler will receive well-wishers on the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

Eid prayer will also be offered by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah at the Grand Eid Mussala in Fujairah.

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Quwain will perform Eid prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Umm Al Quwain.

His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman will perform the prayer at the Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Mussala in Ajman.

General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces will be offering the prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. He will receive well-wishers on the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah will offer prayer at Khuzam Mosque.
