Me and my wife needed a 96-hour visa (which can be yours for 50$ per person). But the big catch is that they won’t give you the visa until you book one night in a hotel. I mean what the %$^&? My whole family lives in Dubai. I come here practically every month! My passport has tons of Dubai stamps. So why do i HAVE to book a hotel? Somebody teach them some sense!

There was an entry on this blog a few days ago regarding the internet censorship in UAE. Suffice to say that even though the censorship is bad in Dubai, it is nothing compared to the censorship in Iran!

I landed in Tehran just this morning. Checked into a dingy hotel named Firdousi hotel which claims to be a 4 star hotel, but believe me, we have 2 stars in Pakistan which are better than this 4 star in Iran. I packed up my bags in the afternoon and checked into one of the best hotels in Tehran, the 5-starLaleh hotel.

After many negotiations with the staff to get my internet up and running, I found out that I could not log in to Orkut, ro check Flickr because all this is blocked. And not only that, half the travel sites for Iran are blocked for some unfathomable reason.

Just remember this: No matter how bad you think you have it, there is always someone somewhere who has it worse!

Seriously, Dubai seems to have an obsession with shopping malls. First, the premier mall was the Deira City Center, which was considered to be the biggest shopping mall (and is still arguably the best) in Dubai. Then came Ibn Batuta (previously known as The Gardens Shopping Mall. Then came the eagerly awaited Emirates Mall with its ski slope. Now we are hearing about Mall of Dubai and Mall of Arabia. Where will this all end?

According to an article on UAEInteract,

“The Mall of Arabia with 600,000 square metres will lead the race, followed by Dubai Mall with 500,000 square metres, Mall of Arabia with 400,000 square metres and Ibn Battuta Mall that with 300,000 square metres. “

What a way to start the Dubai metroblog! I am not in Dubai, with loads to do, and the MetroBlog for this city has just started. But it;s all good, since I can easily find time to write about the city that has become my new home. My next post would most probably be a little comparison post. However, I am really happy to see that the Dubai MetBlog is up and running, and we have a decent sized team. I hope we can all keep writing about life in the fastest growing city of the world!
