You’d think that owning a car as expensive and exclusive as the Bugatti Veyron would ensure that seeing another one in your neighborhood would be an unlikely event. And it probably is for most of the 125 customers who’ve taken delivery of the hyper-exotic to date around the world.

Except if you live in Dubai, where Bugatti has already sold no less than 15 of its million-dollar supercars, or 18.75% of Veyrons produced to date.

With a population of about one and a half million in the oil-rich emirate, that means there’s one Veyron for every 100,000 people. (By contrast, there are 27 Veyrons in the entire UK, population: 60 million). For those fifteen multi-millionaires, however, the flashy wheels might be the edge they need when you consider that there are three boys for every girl in Dubai.

Though rains and the weather around them is always pleasant and a nice change from the usual ’sunny side’ of Dubai, too much of something is bad enough, as they say.

Its been raining pretty hard since the past couple of days and now has come to a point of being a pain for the general public.

The met office predicts a record breaking monsoon season that will surpass the highest recorded over the years of 81.9 mm in January.

I’m getting a lot of pictures from people in different areas, telling their tales of battling for a ‘business as usual’, and so must the readers, but Gulf News summarizes them best here.

Let’s all enjoy the best of what the weather has to offer!

The expansion of Garhoud Bridge, which started in February 2006 with a completion date of March 2008, will have 14 lanes when completed, with a total capacity of 16000 cars per hour, compared to the existing 8000 cars per hour.

4 out of 14 lanes were opened to traffic the day before yesterday for traffic from Bur Dubai to Deira. Commuters travelling the other way still use the old Al Garhoud bridge.

However, the motorists will have to pass through the Salik Toll gates to use the new bridge.

Traffic diverted through the newly opened four lanes of the New Al Garhoud Bridge will break up at the end of the bridge into three lanes bound for Al Qusais and Sharjah, and the remaining lane will lead to four lanes, two of which will lead to Al Rebat Road outbound to Al Rashidiya and Nad Al Hammar, and the other two lanes to Casablanca Road outbound to Dubai International Airport.

The Rail Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the first two Metro trains have been transported out of the factory to undergo driverless operation and climatic testing in various locations in Japan.

The first train underwent dynamic tests at a speed of up to 60km per hour as well as signalling tests for the purpose of driverless operation.

The tests conducted were functional dynamic test, automatic speed control, emergency braking and other safety-related tests. These were carried out at Mihara Test Track which is located near Hiroshima.

The second train was at Nippon Sharyo facilities, located in Nagoya, and went through climatic testing, which would determine the suitability of the train’s air-conditioning system to Dubai’s climatic conditions.

Following the completion of these tests, the two trains will go through final pre-shipment inspection.

I heard this over the news on radio on my way to work……Gulf News has also published it in today’s issue:

The body of a Pakistani plumber killed in a construction site accident on Tuesday is still beneath the rubble.

A police official said salvage operations are ongoing, but it is a tricky situation. The accident occurred near the Academic City when the roof of the second floor of a parking lot under construction caved in as fresh concrete was being poured over it.

Inayathul Haq, 26, and four other workers were taking their afternoon nap when the accident happened. The four others escaped with minor injuries and were treated at Rashid hospital.

Work at the construction site stopped yesterday. Dubai Municipality has launched an investigation into the accident.

These accidents are an everyday tale on construction sites and there seems to be no notice or action taken to curb them.

Buildings under construction covers almost the entire skyline of Dubai. With tight schedules and deadlines, work is carried out 24 hours with very little care taken of the labor workforce.

It is high time that the government implements a viable labor law regulations.
