Supertall city
Gulf News reports that Dubai will soon have far more ‘supertalls’ – towers of over 100 habitable floors – than any other city. There are six in various stages of development, from Burj Dubai which is currently at almost 130 floors, the most in the world, to others being designed. They range from the 101-floor Marina 101 to the planned Al Burj which could be as high as 180 floors. Burj Al Alam at 108, Princess Tower at 107 and Pentominium at 120 storeys will complete the six.

Currently, Chicago has two supertalls, the Sears Tower at 108 storeys and the John Hancock Centre at 100. It also has the 118-floor 7 South Dearborn tower under construction.
Dubai has literally thousands of towers at various stages of development. The new World Central Airport City being developed at Jebel Ali will alone have 1,850. Apart from the supertalls, Dubai has a number of towers between 80 and 100 floors being built. The city will soon have more of these super-skyscrapers than the rest of the world combined – an astonishing thought.
